Fabulous February – LATEST CANS!

Right gang, here we go. We’ve made it through January (well done if you did Veganuary, DryJanuary or Tryanuary) and February is only a short one – then it’ll be nearly Spring! We’ve got this!

We’ve also got: BRAND NEW BEERS! Lots of exciting things have been happening at GCHQ since December – new flooring and drainage was laid so we could move the canning line we installed in September to its final position, and this also entailed taking down all the racking. So everything’s been stacked up in the ‘taproom’, which you’ll have seen if you came to the can shop in December. We’re now taking our time to re-arrange the space as best suits us in this ‘new normal’ – we have the time to work out what configuration works for us now, both with increased canning and decreased draught requirements, and with the growth we’ve been through over our five years at William Street.

But since we got the floor down and the tanks and canning line moved onto it Bob has been brewing like a demon! So we want to tell you about the beers we’re launching in fabulous Feb, so you’re all ready for their releases!

As well as replenishing our core beers Kokomo Weekday (available now) and Pure Optimism (back in stock the week of 15th), we’ve brought back our most requested beer Extra Special. AND, following a poll over on our social media, we’re seeing the return of Redstart Rye for the first time in years. We also have a few new specials up our sleeves – read on!

EXTRA SPECIAL is our award-winning 5.6% ESB, packed full of seven different delicious malts, rich and sweet and perfect for this time of year. Originally Advent Horizon, our old ale for Christmas way back in 2016, we re-brewed and re-named it Extra Special, and this winter put it into can at the beginning of November. You thirsty lot had us sold out by the end of the month – some Christmas beer! And we had so many requests for it all through December that we knew it would be one of our first brews back in the new year. We love it too, though, so we’re pretty happy to see it make a return! It’s available on our webshop right now.

LOVE UNLIMITED is a really special one that Bob’s been dying to brew for ages. Ancho chillies and lots of bitter chocolate paired with a rich, malty base in a luxurious 6% stout, just in time for Valentine’s Day! This super-smooth beer has a subtle kick and a bold roastiness, and is definitely one to treat someone special with. And as well as being available in our usual 12-case, this one will also be making a special appearance for 14th Feb, so keep an eye on the social media (or sign up to our mailing list here to get all the info first) for more on that!

SIMCOE SWELL is our newest IPA, bringing back the bitterness! Munich and wheat complement the Extra Pale malt providing a platform for the Simcoe hops to shine in true West Coast style. This 6.8%-er is packed full of apricot and citrus flavours, earthy and piney. We turned up the 1960s California rock at GCHQ when we brewed this one to infuse this beer with the sunny positivity of surfing, beaches and the hope of an endless summer. And, like all our beers, Simcoe Swell is suitable for vegans – yay!  On the webshop from Friday, being canned Wed 10th.

REDSTART RYE is another old favourite back thanks to you guys! Our 5.3% red ale gets a spicy edge from the rye and its beautiful colour and full-bodied sweetness from the Red-X malt. Add in the big hit of American hops and you have one of Bob’s most-loved babies! So when we asked our team which beers they’d like to see brought back, for the first time in can, we were surprised when Amber beat Bob to it by suggesting this one! She says “I’m usually a huge fan of cask beers (😢) so I’ve been thrilled how well Extra Special and Time Lapse have conveyed their awesome flavours in cans recently. I’m also a sucker for a red ale and it’s such a shame it’s a style you don’t see too often anymore. Throw in that rye hit and you’ve got an absolute winner in my eyes, so I’m glad the majority of you agreed!” Available week of 15th (Amber can’t wait!).

From this Friday (5th) you’ll be able to pre-order our new Malty-Pack – for those less enamoured with the hops, get our three barley beauties this winter! And we’re starting the year with a Kokomo/Simcoe Swell split case, which will expand to our Top Of The Hops case as Pure O makes its way through the canning line.

As well as being available through our webshop here, all our beers will continue to be sold at your favourite independent retailers across Bristol and the rest of the country. If we’re not stocked somewhere you’d like to see us, let us and them know. And if you’d like to be a trade customer, drop us a line to accounts@goodchemistrybrewing.com and we’ll send you the wholesale webshop details – cheers!

Colourful beer cans

We’ve said it before, but like many small breweries and other businesses around Bristol and across the country, your support has meant an awful lot to us over this incredibly stressful time. We’re obviously not out of the woods yet but we as GCB are in a better position at the start of this year than we were at the beginning of the first lockdown last March. Our canning line allows us to continue brewing, packaging and selling beer, which we hope will keep us going until we’re able to also sell draught beer to pubs etc again. We have a strong team in place and, despite the trials of some people working from home which we know many of you will be going through as well, we’re doing our best to stay connected. Please continue to support your local independent businesses wherever and however you can.

Till we can see you again in person, take care, stay safe and cheers,

Kelly & Bob, and Amber, Dan and Liam
